USA – land of the credit cards?

I drove from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh today. Both cities are in the USA – the country that invented the credit card. Shops, restaurants, hookers, beggars – they all take credit cards. But apparently not the turnpikes. The turnpikes take only cash. Or at least, this turnpike did. And as we all know, I never have cash on me. So I had to park the car, give the drivers license to the woman in the toll booth and take a walk to an ATM. The toll booth woman asked me if I didn’t have an American drivers license. When I said no, she said “Sigh. How can you be in our country?“.

Well, the US immigration didn’t tell me that an American drivers license was required to cross the border…
